Traditional Rug Hooking

Traditional rug hooking began in this country in the 1700’s.  All a person needed was a hook.

Nothing was wasted during those difficult years. Women used burlap bags for the backing material. They took worn out clothes and cut them into strips to hook rugs with. They also used their weaving ends (yarn).

We, at Windfall Farm, hook with yarn. We find both types of medium beautiful.  However, hooking with yarn is much easier than the wool strips and can be enjoyed by either the beginner or experienced rug hooker.
